A phone call I got today.
I'm in caps and he's not because I'm pretentious like that.
"Hello?"
"hi...is ala there?"
"..
Um...you want to speak to speak to Allah?
As in the arabic word for god?"
"yeah, him."
"Allah, the god of the muslims?"
"yeah, is he there?"
"You know, he's just god - the word just means "God", not the god of anyone in particular."
"i know that."
"And you want to speak to Allah?"
"yeah."
"Right then."
...
"You know, god's omnipresent, so you're really just as likely to find him somewhere over on your end as you are to find him in our house.
Are you sure you're calling for Allah, the God, and not, say, someone who actually lives here?"
"yeah, I'm calling for allah."
"And you're hoping that he'll just hear you over the wires?"
"yeah, he might be listening."
"Will he talk back?
What will you do if he doesn't?"
"he just might be listening.
I guess I wouldn't know."
"Are you sure you're calling for Allah?"
"yeah."
"Right, well, I guess I'm going to go now.
Good luck with Allah."
"thanks."
