27 million children were without healthcare at some point in 2002-2003. John Kerry believes that affordable healthcare should be a right, not a privilege and has a plan to ensure that every child will have access to high-quality, afforable coverage.

An open letter signed by leading pediatricians from across the country states, "The policy choices now being debated are clear for those who care about the health of children." They point out that President Bush's main health care propsal would decrease the number of uninsured by as little as 5% whereas Senator Kerry's proposal extends coverage to virtually all children, and ultimately all Americans.

President Bush has made a lot of mistakes. He choose to go to war without our allies and without a plan to win the peace. Also he took his attention away from capturing Osama bin Laden and instead put the focus on Iraq even though there was no tie between Iraq and 9-11.

John Kerry and John Edwards will protect America's families by taking a common sense approach: making the homeland safer and fighting terrorism. They will work with other nations so that we can get help in the war on terror and bring our kids home sooner. At the same time, they'll transform the military to address the modern threats of terrorism and ensure that our troops are well equipped and well trained.

Kerry will also address domestic issues like gangs and drug abuse. His plans offer positive alternatives to help get youngsters on the right track while being tough on drug traffickers and gang violence. John Kerry will also restore funding to the COPS program to help keep our streets safe.

John Kerry has been a strong advocate for our kids' schools throughout his Senate career and his education plan further proves his dedication to quality education. Kerry will establish a National Education Trust Fund to ensure that schools get the funding that they need. He will also create more after school programs for our kids with his 'School's Open 'Til Six' program. And for our teens, John Kerry will create a new College Opportunity Tax credit which will make it easier to send kids to college.

To give American kids a future, Kerry has laid out a plan to create 10 million new jobs in his first four years. He will end tax breaks for companies that move jobs overseas and the use the savings to help U.S. corporations grow inside America. And he will stop mortgaging their future by cutting the deficit in half in his first term as president.

j_moody: it's important to stop corporations from cutting and running with American money and American jobs. it's good Kerry recognizes this dimension of the problem-- especially with big pharmaceuticals trying to push fast-track legislation through congress so they can get quick approval for drugs that they then push, at horrendous cost, in poor, desperate countries worldwide. of course, their campaign funds help a lot of senators stay in office, so it promises to be an uphill battle. all the many other logistical and myriad market issues aside, it is a gesture in the right direction.
