I really like the composition of this piece, specifically the movement down from the hand across the face to the hand at rest. It captures Alecia at a moment of alert rest really well, and is just interesting to look at. Two technical questions; first, why didn't you crop a little tighter on the left? The pillow line makes the composition more confused, but perhaps you wanted to break the diagonal. Also, you may want to up the contrast; I love the black shirt but her skin tone doesn't reach white. |

I'm glad you like it. To answer your questions, cropping the left had not occurred to me, mostly because I like the way the arm of the couch looks, but now that you mention it, the picture does feel a little off balance the way that her body runs out of the frame to the right. As for the whites, I intentionally brought the brightness down because I wanted to get some detail in her face. If you shoot for a true white, her face is mostly washed out; an effect I didn't like. You are right: I could have straddled the good white/facial detail fence better. |

I agree with Chuck re: the contrast for the shirt. I like the space to the left, though. The light is mostly coming in from that side, and it makes the picture somehow less mysterious to show some of where the light is coming from. I don't think you need any mystery here. Ack. What I'm trying to say is I like both seeing the light on Alecia and seeing some of where it's coming from, as context. |
