The criticism below is all well and good and, hopefully, helpful, but I think this bears saying right off the bat: Chris, this is a fine picture.
So I'm a sucker for lone-small-figure-in-great-landscape shots; I still think this is a really cool picture. |

I don't know how obvious it is, but I lightened (dodged, if you want to be technical about it) the upper parts of the sky quite significantly. Is this a good thing, or do you think that the sky should be uniformly gray (or perhaps darken as it gets higher)? |

On my computer screen, the picture looks very washed out. Now matting the picture on dark paper might help. Darkening the sky might also help, though it also might be oppressive or top heavy. Can you/are you interested in trying different skies and posting them soo that we can see the differences? |

I feel like this works really well because the human figure is a pure black, and interest is added by (a) the
huge amount of white space on top, which feels very, I dunno, "free," combined with the interesting
white wavy area before the
water. |
