jlewis: Nice twelve-string. :) Things I really like: the mix of the rhythm guitar. That prominent bass line that sounds like some wandering line out of a Yardbirds song, or early Velvets. That surprising chord at the end of the chorus with the tapping percussion after it. The harmonies that wander in and out of the mix lazily.

jlewis: Things that I'd change: The guitar solo takes a while to get into key; for a while it's about a whole step higher than the rhythm guitar. I'm all for playing harmonic games, but it's not necessarily the way to begin the solo. Also, I would add some percussion - perhaps using the tapping against the guitar at the end of the first chorus as a lead-in to more extensive percussion? Nothing heavy -- tambourine, closed hi-hat, that sort of thing, keeping the beat. Maybe a quietly-mixed drummer playing with hot rods. Oh, and one recording problem: the voice sounds like it was recorded with the mid-level turned way up, so it's mushy and hard to understand. I'd back up from the mic a bit, turn the treble and bass up and the mid down, and see if it picks up articulation better -- as it is, a lot of consonants are getting lost into the mid-range ether... Hope you find this at least a little helpful.

eppy: thanks for the comments. i should mention that i've come to realize i'm, er, "lo-fi," which wasn't originally a stylistic choice, but which i now kinda like. at any rate, it was recorded on an analog 4-track with no tone knobs of any kind; the mid-level problem was probably due to the fact that my mic was dying and i didn't realize yet. interestingly, the guitar was recorded using my dad's crappy interview mic, which i used because it has such a high output level and wide response area. maybe i will try some percussion.

cgroom: I've listened to this several times, and I gotta say that I'm really impressed. Reminds of the mood of some of Syd Barrett's solo stuff, actually, with the slow bass and deliberate builds. Some minor comments: during the electric guitar solo, don't increase the level of the rhythm guitar so much. Like Josh, I think a bit of minor percussion may flesh this out a bit more. The singing is quite good, but I wasn't sure about the backing vocals -- are you backing yourself up? I may be nice to get someone singing in a higher pitched voice (grab a random female vocalist perhaps), sorta like Low does with their music. Just an idea. Keep at it!

eppy: Yeah, I am backing myself up; as a matter of fact, this was my first attempt at 3-part harmony, since most of the bands I've been in suffer from horrible PA setups. Good suggestion about the female vocalist, thanks.
