For some reason, this strikes me as the funniest picture I've seen in a while. The focus on the rat, short depth-of-field, is perfect. I'd love a high-res version, if you have one. |

This is a really beautiful rat portrait. He's very curious about his surroundings.. Or it could be interpreted as a sort of "What does it all mean, God?" pose. Brings back memories of my lab rat days.. What kind of research does your friend do, Tom? -- Oh- that question answered in comments of other photo. |

Notice how his whiskers are so much more beautiful than the wires that somewhat mirror them in the background. Yeah, I agree, there's something quizzical about this rodent, a tentative hunger. |

It's funny you say that because the rat didn't have a real hunger that day, which made taking the pictures a little harder. If you look to the bottom of the dish, you can see grains of rice. We wanted him to eat them so we could get a shot of him bending over the rim. He wasn't interested--he had already been fed.
These photos and more were taken for a pending flier or website about the IGERT program at the CNBC, so that's why they're mostly posed. Well, the human was posed, anyway--the rat did pretty much whatever it pleased. |
