You might recall the poster I made recently for an SCCS event called "Movie In Two Hours." MITH was, as advertized, an effort to make a short film from scratch in two hours. We were successful, and now the result can be seen here (Quicktime, Sorenson and QDesign codecs, approx. 100 MB).

The movie is not world class, but it does feature the Swarthmore Gamelan, which serendipitously tromped right through the middle of the filming. Post questions if you've got 'em, I'll try to answer in comments.

cgroom: The two hour movie idea is way cool. Will there be more experiments? My main question is, how much of this stuff was planned, and how much was "found"? Spefically, the kids running after one another -- did you tell them to do that, or did you just drop a hat on one kid and see what happens? More questions to follow.

tom: All that was planned was for us to take the hat to various locales and exchange it among ourselves, much like what happened in the library. The family on Parrish Beach got involved after that one guy (can't remember his name) left the library. We decided on a whim to involve the family--in fact, when he sits down and talks to them, he's telling them that they're in this movie, see, and so forth... Then the kids pick up the hat and run off with it. The rest was essentially scripted on the spot, with us trying to figure out how to get the hat to Carolyn Hatt's office (ba-dum chsh!).

I don't know if more experiments are in the offing--at this point, it mostly depends on future admins. I hope they do. I'm a little worried that after Swat I won't be able to find a bunch of folks and do stuff like this.
