[ 1 ] cgroom: I love the areas of fire, but the outside of the image is rather cluttered. Maybe a simple crop would make it more intimate and capture the stillness I feel towards the center.

[ 2 ] xanthi: Yeah, I was fretting about this corner as well. The thing about cropping is I'd like to keep the match flame in the center of the picture, and I'd prefer not to loose any more of the lantern on the right. I thought about trying to doctor it in Photoshop, maybe filling in this area with solid carpet-color taken from elsewhere in the picture, but I'm not sure I trust myself enough to have it not come out fake-looking. Oh, and since one of you asked others might be wondering, the thing in his hand is an old-fashioned match-holder, a Christmas gift from my grandmother.

tom: Are we standing on the table? Also, what kind of camera is this? Pretty clear shot for low light (my Minolta's superhero weakness)...

xanthi: In the original shots I was standing on a chair behind the table. Because of the low light though I couldn't hold the camera still enough for the longer exposure time, and they were all blurry. So we used my brother's tripod, which for this picture was set on the table. The camera is a Nikon Coolpix 2000, but Tim (who knows much more about these things than I) thinks it's a horrible camera because you have to battle it to adjust the settings manually; it prefers to do things in its own pre-packaged way.

xanthi: I'm also not committed to the title of this piece. I at first considered calling it 'Christmas' which, if I did, the busy-ness in the upper left hand corner might add to. The focus is as much the flame as it is Tim, though, and I'd like to be able to incorporate that into the title. Suggestions?

sprice: "Christmas Lights" takes your title a step further and puts an interesting twist on the scene. Those aren't what we usually think of as christmas lights..
