Is this bird looking away from us, or does it not have a beak? |

Are these anti-duckbite armguards? |

I believe this to be a chicken. At the state fair this year, they had a whole bunch of this general-kind-o-chicken, dyed in various pastel colors. Upsetting. It's nice to see one in such 'natural' environs.
This picture makes me nostalgic for that sort of generic third-world meat market that one runs across. The only thing missing (yay!) is a carcass of some sort.
I might crop this at the level of her shirt-collar - somehow she's out of the picture for me, perhaps since I can't quite figure out what she's reacting to. I think the birds take (ie, make) the cake enough to be the picture themselves. |

Cool! I love the warm colors in this image! I also like the way the nearby ducks and person behind them are scaled together. The mallard at center almost looks stuffed to me, but maybe that's because I'm used to real ducks flapping around. How does the shopkeeper keep them in place?
Quick, everyone, post more photos! |

sprice:
Tom, what do you mean "scaled together"? |

tom:
The ducks look big; they're close. The foreshortening makes their size (scale) relative to the size of the woman interesting to me. That's all I meant... |

First of all, I am with Alex. The fluffy thing is a chicken. Josh and I saw a bunch of them at the 3 counties fair in Northampton.
In terms of the picture, I would definately leave the woman in, for two reasons. First of all, the title of "Wanna buy a duck?" works better with an actual duck vendor in the picture. Normally, I would not worry so much about a title, but it seems like this kind of picture is almost photo-journalism, and that therefore captions are important. Second, and again related to photojournalism, alone, the ducks are lovely, but they are just ducks. Including the vendor makes it an interesting slice of life from a far away place? Exoticizing? Maybe, but also a lot of what makes this picture more interesting that, say, a picture of someone having a yard sale, or of ducks generally. |

samira:
Also, I can't figure out how you would srop the woman out, since her torso is the backdrop for the ducks anyway. |

I just dig this picture. A lot. I mean... ducks. Furry chickens. Interesting composition. What's there not to like? The most impressive thing is that it _should_ by all rights be a busy image because there's a lot of stuff and lines in it, yet it feels very relaxed. |

Nice triangle made by bright reds (food bowl at top, food bowl at bottom, vendor's sleeve) in a photo otherwise made mostly of earth tones. |
