Author's Note: |
Currently a senior at Bard College, working on a project in short fiction. The stories I'm writing take place along the Hudson River, and are influenced by several writers, from the classic American authors of this area, J. F. Cooper, Washington Irving, Edith Wharton, to more contemporary guys, like Russel Banks, William Kennedy, Raymond Carver, Lydia Minatoya. To give a sense of my taste, some of my favorite writers that I've read over the past few years: Nabokov, Graham Greene, Haruki Murakami, Kazuo Ishiguro, Viktor Pelevin, Michael Ondaatje, Valeria Narbikova, and Samuel Beckett. Of centuries past, I'm big on the Russians: Gogol, Dostoevski, Turgenev, Tolstoy, but the Americans too: Whitman, Dickinson, Melville, Twain, Dorothy Parker, Hemingway, Fitzgerald. Two books I hate: Salinger's Catcher in the Rye and Dreiser's Sister Carrie. Thematically, I write stories about loss and unconventional love, aesthetically, the intersection of different spheres of language. |
